Roadtrip Across the US with Tobias

3,400 miles from Miami, FL to Sacramento, CA in August 2023!

Miami, Florida

Loading up the rental minivan in Miami!

St. Augustine, FL

Dog-friendly hotel in St. Augustine called the Southern Oaks Inn. Perfect stop!

Greenville, South Carolina

Tobias enjoyed the weekend in Greenville, SC with his long distance girlfriend, Lala. This is where he jumped down the ravine into the river and nearly gave me a heart attack. Brave guy. They played around a lot in the neighborhood trails and cuddled at night.

Back on the road north! Love’s Travel Stops were found all along our route and many of them had fenced in dog parks that Tobias enjoyed.

Cincinnati, Ohio

We stayed in the hip Cincinnati neighborhood called Over-the-Rhine in an Airbnb apartment. Such cute parks, shops, and restaurants!!

Eden Park, near downtown Cincinnati, is a huge park with great views of the river and lots of trails. Loved it!

Pawrents night out in Cincinnati. Salazar is an incredible restaurant in “OTR” (Over-the-Rhine). We really enjoyed cocktails, little fried oyster sliders, branzino, and a summer vegetable “gargouillou” cooked to perfection!

Cleveland, Ohio

Enjoyed a long weekend in Shaker Heights with our dear friends! We had a lot of fun with Mina and Aria, and Tobias enjoyed them too. Such sweeties!

Ottawa (Outside of Chicago), Illinois

Here’s Tobias looking out for bunnies running into the corn fields… We spent one night here as our first pit stop out West.

Oh look, the Mississippi River!

Des Moines, Iowa. Stopped for lunch and to view the Papajohns Sculpture Park in Des Moines.

Omaha, Nebraska

Tobias preferred to stay in for the night in Omaha in the beautiful Magnolia Hotel while we hit up the hotel bar. Great dog-friendly spot!

Stopped at the huge Hanscom Dog Park in Omaha, NE before starting our longest drive yet.

Boulder, Colorado

Next stop: Boulder, CO for two nights!

In Boulder, we stayed at the dog-friendly Hilton Garden Inn. Boulder is awesome. We did a four-mile hike, then found a dog-friendly lake nearby so Tobias could cool off. For Pawrents Night Out, we went to downtown Boulder and ate at Jax Seafood, known for fresh oysters and awesome lobster rolls.

Back on the road! Where to next?!

Moab, Utah

Arriving at our adorable Airbnb in Moab where we would stay for two nights!

About a 20-30 minute drive from Moab, we found the dog-friendly Professor Creek and Mary Jane Trail. It follows Professor Creek for an 8mile out-and-back hike ending at a waterfall. We didn’t go the whole way because it was pretty hot, but we really enjoyed walking through the nice, cool creek.

Spanish Valley Winery. We stopped at the only vineyard in Utah for a tasting.

Park City, Utah

After Moab, we drove about 3-4 hours to Park City, UT. It’s nicknamed Bark City, and totally understand why. There are so many dog friendly trails.

In Park City, there is even an off-leash dog-friendly hiking trail network called Run a Muk that is fenced in and HUGE! I’ve never seen that before!

We also found an awesome, grassy dog park in Park City that also had a fenced in dog-friendly lake called Willow Creek Park.

Pawrents Night(s) Out! In Park City, we really liked Handle for really nice food and High West Distillery for drinks and atmosphere.

The home stretch

The last leg of our trip was a 10+hr day through Utah, northern Nevada, and down to Jackson, CA to mom’s house. I was happy to see a couple wildlife overpasses along I-80.

Made it to CA!! Yay!
